    Selling Your Hyundai in Canberra?

Hyundai sells in volume in Canberra and the cars tend to reach us in a specific window — roughly eight to fifteen years old, still driving, but now facing a repair that costs more than the vehicle. Getz, i30 and Accent parts move quickly, which is reflected in what we can pay.

What We Commonly See on Hyundais in Canberra

    • i30 and Elantra with engine problems on higher-kilometre examples
    • i30 and Santa Fe diesels with DPF or turbo faults
    • Getz and Accent that have simply reached the end of their life
    • Tucson and Santa Fe with automatic transmission trouble
    • Cars still carrying an unresolved airbag or safety recall
    • iLoad vans retired out of business use

One of Canberra's Most Common Family Cars

Hyundai has grown into one of the top-selling brands in Australia over the past decade, and the i30, Tucson and Santa Fe are everywhere on ACT roads as a result. That popularity means strong ongoing demand for their parts, so we can offer solid prices even on higher-mileage or damaged examples.

iLoad, iMax and Commercial Vehicles Welcome

We don't just buy passenger cars — tradie favourites like the iLoad and iMax are accepted in any condition too, along with older Getz and Excel models that are common first cars around Canberra. Whatever the age or fault, we'll give it a fair look.

The Getz and Accent Generation Is Reaching the End

Hyundai sold enormous numbers of small, cheap, sensible cars in Australia through the 2000s, and a great many of them became somebody's first car. Those cars are now fifteen to twenty years old, on their third or fourth owner, and reaching the point where a clutch, a timing belt or a failed air conditioning system costs more than the car is worth.

That is the single most common Hyundai conversation we have. The car is not dramatic, nothing has exploded, it simply is not worth spending money on any more. It is still worth collecting, still worth paying for, and still worth recycling properly rather than leaving on a verge.

Theta II Engines and the Cars That Stopped Suddenly

The other common Hyundai story is abrupt. The Theta II petrol engine used across a range of mid-2010s models was the subject of significant warranty action internationally over bearing wear and, in some cases, engine failure without much warning. Owners who fall outside the coverage are left with a relatively young car and a quote for a replacement engine.

Those vehicles are usually worth more than their owners expect, because everything except the engine is comparatively young. Good panels, good interior, good suspension and good electronics on a car with a dead motor still add up.

i30s, Tucsons and the Commuter Fleet

Canberra's shape works against small cars. A lot of the region's driving is longer than it looks — Murrumbateman, Yass, Bungendore and Queanbeyan commutes put highway kilometres on cars quickly, and an i30 or Tucson bought new can be at 250,000km well before it looks tired. High kilometres alone do not put us off; on a Hyundai of that age the odometer reading matters much less than whether the car is complete.

We also see a steady stream of iLoad vans coming out of trade fleets, where the body is battered but the driveline is fine. Those are straightforward for us to take and there is no need to tidy one up first.

    Frequently Asked Questions

My i30 needs an engine. Is it worth more than scrap?

Almost always. The i30 is one of the highest-volume cars in the ACT, so its doors, lights, interior, suspension and gearbox all have buyers here even when the engine does not. That parts demand is what lifts the offer above a straight per-tonne metal price.

Do you buy Hyundais with an outstanding recall?

Yes. An unresolved engine or airbag recall makes a car very hard to sell privately — buyers walk away — but it does not affect our offer. We handle recall vehicles as part of normal dismantling.

Will you take a Getz or Accent that is barely worth anything?

Yes, and there is no minimum value below which we stop being interested. Small Hyundais at the end of their life are one of the vehicles we collect most often. The tow is still free and you are still paid on the spot.

What about a Santa Fe or Tucson with transmission trouble?

That is a very common call. Automatic and DPF faults on the larger Hyundais usually cost more to fix than the vehicle is worth once it is over ten years old, which is precisely the point at which selling to a wrecker makes more sense than repairing.

My Hyundai's engine failed suddenly. Is the car still worth anything?

Usually more than owners expect. On a mid-2010s Hyundai the engine is often the only thing that has failed, and the panels, interior, suspension and electronics are all comparatively young. A relatively modern car with a dead motor is a useful donor vehicle, not a write-off.

Is 250,000km too many for you to be interested?

No. Canberra commutes from Yass, Murrumbateman and Bungendore put highway kilometres on cars quickly, so we see high-kilometre Hyundais constantly. Whether the car is complete matters far more to us than what the odometer says.

Do you buy iLoad vans out of a business?

Yes, and battered bodywork is expected on a working van. Dents, scrapes and a rough interior do not change much, because the driveline and the mechanical parts are what we are valuing. We can also handle the collection from a work site rather than a home address.

Do I need a roadworthy certificate?

No, you do not. Since we are a licensed motor vehicle dealer buying cars for wrecking or resale, we purchase them "as-is". This saves you the time and money of getting an inspection.

How quickly can you pick up my car?

We often offer same-day service! If you call us in the morning, we can usually collect your vehicle by the afternoon. We can also schedule a specific time that works for you.

How much is my scrap car worth?

The value depends on the make, model, weight, and condition of the vehicle. We offer competitive rates based on current metal prices and parts demand. Call us for a free quote!

Do you buy unregistered, written-off, or non-running cars?

Yes. Unregistered, written-off, flood or hail damaged, and vehicles that don’t start are all accepted. We handle the ownership transfer paperwork and can advise on cancelling registration, so there’s nothing extra for you to organise.

I still owe finance on my car - can you still buy it?

It depends on the payout figure owing versus the value of the car. Give us a call and we’ll talk through your specific situation — in many cases the finance needs to be settled as part of the sale, and we can explain exactly how that works before you commit to anything.

I've lost my number plates - is that a problem?

Not usually. We can talk you through reporting missing plates when we arrange the ownership transfer, so it doesn’t hold up the sale or leave you exposed to fines or tolls on plates that are no longer on the car.

The car isn't registered in my name - can I still sell it?

This comes up often with inherited vehicles or family cars. If you’re the executor of an estate or otherwise legally authorised to sell the vehicle, we can complete the sale — just mention your situation when you call so we can explain exactly what’s needed.

I have more than one car to sell - can you take them together?

Yes, we regularly collect multiple vehicles from the same property in one visit — a common scenario for deceased estates, business fleets, or a household clearing out several old cars at once. Let us know how many when you call so we can plan the pickup properly.

Am I obligated to accept the quote once I get one?

Not at all. Every quote is free and obligation-free. You’re welcome to compare it against other offers before deciding, and there’s no pressure or cost involved in simply asking what your car is worth.

How is this different from just weighing my car in at a scrap metal yard?

A pure scrap metal price only accounts for the weight of the steel. We factor in reusable parts, make and model demand, and current market conditions as well, which is usually why our offer comes in higher than a straight per-tonne scrap price — plus we come to you and tow it for free.

What areas do you actually cover?

Every ACT district — Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong, Woden Valley, Inner North, Inner South, Weston Creek and Molonglo Valley — plus Queanbeyan and the surrounding NSW region. If you’re unsure whether your specific street is covered, just give us a call; the answer is almost always yes.

Do you buy motorcycles, trailers, or only cars?

Our focus is passenger cars, SUVs, utes, and vans, including business and fleet vehicles. If you have something outside that range, give us a call and we’ll let you know honestly whether it’s something we can help with.
