    Collecting From Gungahlin Streets

Gungahlin is Canberra's newest large district, and it was built to a much tighter street pattern than the rest of the city. That shapes almost everything about how a car gets collected there.

    The newest fleet in Canberra

Gungahlin is the youngest district in the city, and its cars are correspondingly young. That changes what a vehicle is worth when it reaches the end. On an older car most of the value is in the metal; on a ten-year-old Gungahlin car there are panels, lights, seats, wheels, electronics and a driveline that are all genuinely reusable.

It also changes why cars end up with us. Gungahlin vehicles are more often written off than worn out, which means the car may look finished while most of it is perfectly good.

The January 2020 hailstorm is still working through

The hailstorm that crossed Canberra in January 2020 wrote off an extraordinary number of vehicles, and Gungahlin was among the areas worst affected. Years later those cars are still moving through the market: repaired and resold, or driven on with dimpled panels until something else goes wrong.

If yours was one of them, the hail history makes no difference to us. Hail damages panels and glass and nothing underneath them, so the driveline and the mechanical parts are unaffected. You do not need the insurance paperwork to sell it.

Insurance write-offs and what you can still sell

A vehicle assessed as a statutory write-off cannot be re-registered in the ACT, which surprises owners who expected to repair it. A repairable write-off can be, but the cost of doing it properly often exceeds what the car would then be worth. Either way the vehicle still has real value as parts and metal.

We buy both. If the insurer has already settled and you have retained the vehicle, that is a normal sale. Bring whatever documentation you have and we will tell you plainly what it is worth.

    Gungahlin Cash for Cars FAQs

We just moved into a new estate in Taylor or Throsby - can you still find us?

Yes. We regularly collect from Gungahlin's newest developments, including streets that aren't fully mapped yet. Just share a pin drop or the nearest cross street when you book.

Do you buy family SUVs and 4WDs, which are common around Gungahlin?

Absolutely. Klugers, Territories, CX-5s and similar family vehicles are exactly what we see most in this area, and we buy them in any condition, running or not.

Can I get a quote before selling my car in Ngunnawal or Casey?

Yes, quotes are free and obligation-free, over the phone or online. You'll know what we'll pay before we ever send a truck out.
