Canberra is small enough that we treat the whole ACT as one service area. What changes between districts is not the price — it is the practicalities of getting a truck to your car.
Everything runs out of Hume
Our licensed yard is in Hume, at the southern edge of the ACT. For a city shaped the way Canberra is, that is close to ideal: the furthest points we cover routinely — Dunlop and Macgregor in the north-west, Banks and Conder at the southern tip, Hall to the north, and Queanbeyan across the border — all sit inside about a thirty minute run.
That is why towing is free everywhere in the ACT rather than free inside some radius with a charge beyond it. There is no outer zone, no fuel levy and no minimum vehicle value attached to a particular suburb.
What timing looks like across the districts
Same-day collection is realistic across most of the ACT if the call comes in during the morning. Tuggeranong and the Woden Valley are the easiest to slot in late in the day because they are closest to the yard. Gungahlin and the outer Belconnen suburbs more often become a next-morning job when the call lands after lunch, purely because of the run across town.
The things that genuinely delay a collection are access rather than distance: a basement car park with a low clearance bar, a car boxed in behind two others, a steep unsealed driveway, or a vehicle that will not roll and is sitting somewhere a tilt tray cannot reach. Those are worth mentioning on the phone so the right truck turns up first time.
The border changes the paperwork, not the coverage
Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, Googong and Karabar are ten minutes from the yard and we collect there constantly. The difference is administrative: a NSW-registered vehicle is dealt with through Service NSW rather than Access Canberra, and the plate and refund process is not the same. The Queanbeyan page sets that out properly.
If your suburb is not listed
The ACT has well over a hundred suburbs and we collect from every one of them, plus the surrounding NSW villages. The pages below are the areas we are asked about most often and have written up in detail — they are not the limits of where we go. If yours is not named, find the district it belongs to; the service, the free tow and the offer are identical.
Areas We’ve Written Up in Detail
Each of these pages covers something specific about collecting a car in that part of Canberra — the street layout, the housing stock, the access problems that actually come up there.
Belconnen
Twenty-plus suburbs ranging from 1970s houses in Melba to apartments off Emu Bank — two very different collections.
Gungahlin
Canberra’s newest large district, built to a much tighter street pattern than the rest of the city.
Tuggeranong
The largest area we cover, from Kambah down to Banks — and the closest district to our Hume depot.
Woden Valley
Wide 1960s streets, carports rather than garages, and a lot of cars that have not moved address in decades.
Inner North
Canberra’s oldest housing stock: mature street trees and rear lanes that make a tow truck work for it.
Inner South
Two jobs in one district — the widest residential verges in Canberra, and the working yards of Fyshwick.
Weston Creek
A housing mix found nowhere else in Canberra, the direct result of the 2003 bushfires.
Molonglo Valley
Coombs, Wright, Denman Prospect and Whitlam — still under construction, with the access problems that brings.
Queanbeyan
Across the border in NSW. Same service, different paperwork — Service NSW rather than Access Canberra.
Kambah
Canberra’s largest suburb by population, laid out as courts and cul-de-sacs instead of a grid.
Kaleen
Original 1970s houses alongside much newer townhouse development, which need slightly different handling.
Dickson
Low-rise government housing turned dense apartments in fifteen years — basements and back lanes.
Kingston
Two suburbs sharing a name: 1920s cottages inland, high-density Foreshore on the lake.
Curtin
Early-1960s Woden layout — wide streets, deep blocks, generous setbacks. About as easy as collection gets.
Amaroo
Late-1990s Gungahlin: denser than old Canberra, more open than the newest estates further north.
