Call Now: 0409 296 758“Car removal” is used to describe two completely different transactions, and it is worth knowing which one you are being offered before you book anything.
The first is a disposal service: someone comes, takes the vehicle away, and you pay them for the trouble. That is a towing job with a tidier name, and depending on where the car is and what state it is in, it can cost anywhere from a hundred dollars to several hundred.
The second is what we do. We are a licensed motor wrecker, which means the vehicle has value to us as parts and material. So the money moves the other way: we pay you for the car, and the removal itself is free. There is no call-out fee, no towing charge, and no deduction at the end for distance or difficulty.
If you are comparing quotes, that distinction is the only one that really matters. Everything else — how quickly someone can come, how polite they are on the phone — is secondary to whether the number at the end of the job is positive or negative.
A car at the end of its life is not worthless, even when it will not start and has not moved in three years. It is roughly a tonne of steel, a few hundred dollars of aluminium and copper if you know how to separate it, a catalytic converter, and a set of parts that other people in Canberra are actively looking for — alternators, doors, mirrors, ECUs, seats, wheels.
Our yard in Hume exists to recover all of that. The cost of sending a truck to your address is small against what the vehicle is worth once it is dismantled properly, which is why we can absorb the towing and still hand you money. An operator who only tows, and has nowhere to take the car except a weighbridge, cannot.
Most people arrive at this page with one of four situations. They are handled slightly differently, and each has a page of its own with the detail.
It does not start, will not roll, is missing wheels, or has been sitting in the same spot long enough that the grass has grown through it. This is the most common call we take, and the awkward ones — behind a gate, sunk into a lawn, down a steep driveway — are routine rather than a problem.
The specifics of getting a vehicle out that cannot move are covered on our scrap car removal page.
It starts, it drives, it might even be registered. It is simply surplus — a second car nobody uses, a vehicle from a deceased estate, something that has to go before a house move. These are usually worth noticeably more than scrap, and it is worth saying so on the phone rather than assuming otherwise.
See unwanted car removal for the situational side of this, or sell my car in Canberra if the vehicle is in good enough order that you are weighing us against a private sale.
Neither stops a sale. We buy unregistered vehicles constantly, and a statutory write-off is still a legitimate vehicle to sell to a wrecker. What changes is the paperwork, and we walk you through it.
Details are on cash for unregistered cars.
Occasionally the vehicle is not for sale — it is going to a mechanic, to a new address, or to someone else who has bought it. That is a straight tow rather than a removal, and it is a different conversation. See free towing.
If you are not sure which of these you are, describe the car on the phone and we will tell you. It takes about a minute and it decides which truck comes out.
The process is deliberately short, because the most common complaint people have about this industry is being messed around.
You give us the make, model, year, rough condition, and where the car is sitting. We give you a figure on that call. It is a real figure, not a range designed to be revised down when the driver turns up — if something you have described turns out to be materially different in person, we will say so, but that is rare and we do not go looking for reasons.
Then we book a window. Same-day is available across the ACT for most bookings made in the morning; next-day is close to guaranteed.
The driver checks the vehicle matches the description, you sign a receipt of sale, and you are paid before the car is loaded — cash, Osko or PayID, whichever you prefer. Then it goes on the tilt tray and leaves.
The whole visit is usually twenty minutes. You do not need to clean the car, service it, get a roadworthy, or have it running. You do need to be there, or to have arranged for someone who can legally sign on your behalf.
The vehicle comes to our Hume yard and is depolluted first — fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid, refrigerant and the battery all come out and are handled under the ACT’s environmental requirements rather than going to landfill in the shell. Then the reusable parts come off, and what is left is baled for steel recycling.
More on that process is on our car recycling page, and on car wreckers Canberra if you want the parts side of it.
Less than most people expect, but not nothing.
Afterwards there is one job left that is yours: cancelling the registration and lodging the disposal notice with Access Canberra, which takes a few minutes online. We will remind you before we leave. It matters — it is what stops fines and tolls following you around after the car is gone.
The one thing we cannot do is buy a vehicle from someone who cannot establish they are entitled to sell it. If a tenant or a previous owner has abandoned a car on your property, that runs through a separate ACT process rather than through us, and we will explain what we know of it rather than simply taking the car.
Passenger cars, SUVs, utes, vans and light commercials, in any condition. Running or not, registered or not, damaged or intact, one vehicle or six from the same address.
Condition genuinely does not disqualify anything. We regularly collect cars that have been flooded, burnt, hail-damaged, stripped for parts, rolled, or simply left until the engine seized. We also collect plenty that start first go.
What we are not the right people for is motorcycles, trailers, boats and heavy trucks. Ring and ask rather than assuming — but if the answer is no, we will say so rather than sending a truck to find out.
Every ACT district, and the removal is free in all of them: Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Molonglo Valley, the Inner North and the Inner South. We also cover Queanbeyan and the immediately surrounding NSW area.
Distance within the ACT does not change the offer. A car in Kambah and the same car in Amaroo are worth the same to us, because the towing is our cost to carry, not a line item we pass on. Our service areas page has the suburb-by-suburb detail.
There are a lot of operators in this market and the quality is uneven. A few things are worth checking, whoever you end up calling.
We are happy to be checked against every one of those, and we would rather you asked them of us than found out afterwards.
The honest answer is that it depends on weight, make, model, condition and what the metal market is doing that month, which is why nobody serious publishes a fixed price list.
What we can say is that the figure you get on the phone is the figure you are paid, and that a complete car — engine and gearbox still in it, catalytic converter still attached, wheels on — is worth substantially more than one that has been picked over. If you are deciding whether to sell parts off it first, it is usually not worth the effort.
If you would like a considered number rather than a quick one, our free car valuation page explains what we look at and why.
Call 0409 296 758 and describe the car. You will have a figure before you hang up, and no obligation to do anything with it.

Cash or Osko payment on the spot.
Not with us. The removal and towing are free anywhere in the ACT, and you are paid for the vehicle on collection. Be aware that some operators advertising “car removal” are offering a paid disposal service where the money goes the other way — always ask directly whether towing is charged.
Same-day removal is available across Canberra for most bookings made in the morning, and next-day is close to guaranteed. If you are working to a deadline such as a property settlement or a rental inspection, tell us the date and we will book to it or tell you plainly that we cannot.
Someone does. We have to verify identity and get a signature on the receipt of sale, and we pay at collection, so either you or somebody legally authorised to sell the vehicle on your behalf needs to be present.
Yes, as long as you are entitled to sell it and we can get lawful access — a storage unit, a workplace car park, a relative’s property or a mechanic’s yard are all common. What we cannot do is remove a vehicle that belongs to someone else, such as one a tenant has abandoned; that follows a separate ACT process.
No. The towing is our cost to carry rather than a line item we pass on, so the same car is worth the same to us in Tuggeranong as it is in Gungahlin. We do not reduce an offer because an address is inconvenient.
No, you do not. Since we are a licensed motor vehicle dealer buying cars for wrecking or resale, we purchase them "as-is". This saves you the time and money of getting an inspection.
We often offer same-day service! If you call us in the morning, we can usually collect your vehicle by the afternoon. We can also schedule a specific time that works for you.
The value depends on the make, model, weight, and condition of the vehicle. We offer competitive rates based on current metal prices and parts demand. Call us for a free quote!
Yes. Unregistered, written-off, flood or hail damaged, and vehicles that don’t start are all accepted. We handle the ownership transfer paperwork and can advise on cancelling registration, so there’s nothing extra for you to organise.
It depends on the payout figure owing versus the value of the car. Give us a call and we’ll talk through your specific situation — in many cases the finance needs to be settled as part of the sale, and we can explain exactly how that works before you commit to anything.
Not usually. We can talk you through reporting missing plates when we arrange the ownership transfer, so it doesn’t hold up the sale or leave you exposed to fines or tolls on plates that are no longer on the car.
This comes up often with inherited vehicles or family cars. If you’re the executor of an estate or otherwise legally authorised to sell the vehicle, we can complete the sale — just mention your situation when you call so we can explain exactly what’s needed.
Yes, we regularly collect multiple vehicles from the same property in one visit — a common scenario for deceased estates, business fleets, or a household clearing out several old cars at once. Let us know how many when you call so we can plan the pickup properly.
Not at all. Every quote is free and obligation-free. You’re welcome to compare it against other offers before deciding, and there’s no pressure or cost involved in simply asking what your car is worth.
A pure scrap metal price only accounts for the weight of the steel. We factor in reusable parts, make and model demand, and current market conditions as well, which is usually why our offer comes in higher than a straight per-tonne scrap price — plus we come to you and tow it for free.
Every ACT district — Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong, Woden Valley, Inner North, Inner South, Weston Creek and Molonglo Valley — plus Queanbeyan and the surrounding NSW region. If you’re unsure whether your specific street is covered, just give us a call; the answer is almost always yes.
Our focus is passenger cars, SUVs, utes, and vans, including business and fleet vehicles. If you have something outside that range, give us a call and we’ll let you know honestly whether it’s something we can help with.
